Abstract

Heterospory, within one and the same sporangium is known in an Indian species of quillowrt, Isoetes pantii Goswami and Arya. Megaspores contained in the microsporangia have germinated to produce gametophytes and develop sporophytes. Some of the young sporophytes exhibit leaves comparable only to spiny leaves of lepidodendrids besides normal leaves,  a feature hitherto unknown for any living lycopod.

Keywords: Heterosporous sporangia, Relic Genes, Resemblance with Fossil Lycopods, Isoetes pantii complex
