Abstract
The titres of anti-A and anti-B isoagglutinins were studied in 75 brahmin families and 66 pairs of twins of Visakapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (India) to assess the role of genetic component in the variation of titres. A high mean titre value for anti-B than anti-A was observed in all the blood groups in family data. The intrafamilial correlation coefficients were significant for all combinations. The heritability estimates obtained also suggest a higher genetic component in determining the antibody titre. The significant difference in the titre value from 0 and A, B, individuals of twins suggest, that the strength of the antibody varies in hererozygous and homozygous states.
